It's driving me insane. My younger sister has no sense of money or time or entertainment value. She sits infront of a screen at every possible moment watching shows and movies that she has already seen. What makes me angery is that she has no purpose. She doesn't do it because she's forgetting the movie and wants to re-live the dramatic experience but instead because she's bored, lazy and stubbon. To contextualise, we have Netflix, out of thousands of new entertainment that she hasn't seen she settles for "Kindergarden Cop", not only a movie she has seen several times over, but one that we also own on DVD as well. She wasting the money spent on Netflix by watching something we already own. She wasting her time watching something that is not, in any way, helpful or useful. Kindergarden Cop isn't even a very good movie in comparison to many other movies Netflix offers. Because she repeats this insolent practice often, she ends up wasting all her time and thought. To her entertainments definition is pre-watched movies. And lifes definition is entertainment. She doesn't live in her own world any more but instead repeats the lives of fictional characters, who are at the least, interesting but hold no value.
In todays world we breed kids in this way, to know only that parents and others will make sure they are okay. This is the same as telling them, "We'll put your life in the bank so it is safe and you live though the lives of fake characters on TV." How are so many immagrants successful in the western world? They don't grow up with this knowledge, they learn to earn for themselves. Being consumers makes us dependant and weak too early in life, it influences us to be like what we see intead of creating paths for ourselves, or innovating life.
As someone who lives by innovation, I cannot believe that such 'sheep'ism exsists in the world.
