Grades are back, signaling the official end of the 2013-2014 school year. Both academically and socially, I learnt a lot.
The change of pace and atmosphere got to me academically. I really struggled to learn and to succeed initially. In fact, more than initially. It wasn't until after midterms of second semester that I began to really reach a proper level of efficiency while studying to learn the material. First semester (which I barely remember now) wasn't a complete failure but was pretty close compared to what I want for myself, at least it was a wake up call to increase my work level. In the first bit of second semester I did much better, but I really feel good about what I accomplished in the later half. From a GPA/transcript perspective this year was very unfortunate, and I'm not happy about it. However I really did learn a lot and from that perspective I'm pretty proud. My 2014 goal that I made for myself this New Year is coming along very nicely.
Socially living in the dorm was a big experience to say the least. The amount of friends I made, and amount of people that got to me in a bad way was very different than expected. I remember blogging about having to replace all my friend-circles for each of my interests and in the end it all played itself out. Maybe next time I shouldn't blog/think about the future so much, throughout the year it was most definitely on my mind and I felt like I was failing to achieve my goals, if I had just let it play out without thinking about it I would've saved some energy. Also, advise for dealing with people you don't particularly like, kill 'em with kindness (that's from a sister). I'll have to experiment with it more in the future.
Another year, gone. On to the next one.
