So I recently rewatched BBALLBREAKDOWN's video on the best individual defenders on Lebron James. And it got me thinking NBA defence.
To have a good NBA defence a team needs a good defensive culture, good defensive execution and good defensive players. Having just 2 of those 3 is not enough to make it far into the postseason.
Currently the Celtics have a good defensive culture, and good defensive execution thanks to head coach Brad Stevens. What's the Celtics lack is a strong wing defender that can guard the likes of the NBA's star offensive players.
Avery Bradley is a strong perimeter defender, but is more so suited for guards rather than wing players.
Going forward, it's going to be important that we obtain a player that can be a lockdown defender. The only problem with this is that lockdown defenders are rare and are not often very versatile on the offensive side of the ball. Trading for such a player will be very difficult.
The draft is one place where athletic, long and quick players can be found. However, they are not ready to be locked down defenders at the NBA a level just yet. They will need some development after being drafted to evolve into a lockdown defender.
Danny Ainge has a lot of tricks up his sleeve, and a lot of potential moves to make. I'm sure a lockdown defender will come around eventually on our way to championship contention.
